Kayla, tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do at Carved
I am an introverted empath that loves to create art. Whether it be with metal, resin, glass, or wood. I was lucky enough to find my way into the resin pour position at Carved and it has been very fun and challenging.
What does a typical workday for you look like?
My mornings look like: coffee consumption, podcast selections, and setting myself up for a good daily workflow. The rest of the day is mainly pouring all of your Carved products! Although a thing I’ve enjoyed about working at Carved has been getting experience at different stations. Every once in a while I may find myself helping out in another area, I’m constantly learning and that has been great.
At times, it can be difficult to keep creativity and new ideas constant. What inspires you as an artist to press forward when you hit a creative block?
It’s all in knowing when to walk away for a moment. Sometimes you are just not inspired. That is when I stick with what I know. And that will typically take me to where I want to be creatively. I find this trick works with some art forms better than others.
What does your creative / work space look like?
My work space at home and work are polar opposite. At work I keep it as nice and organized as possible to help have a nice flow throughout the day. My space at home is chaos, but I know where (most) things are.
What are your go-to essential items for your workday?
-
Coffee
-
Headphones
-
Gloves
-
Apron
What’s been your most rewarding experience at Carved?
From the moment I walked into the really cool old building Carved resides in, I wanted to work there. It was everything I could have wanted in a job, they were making unique products and I wanted to be a part of it. I started in the position of hand stitching wallets and finishing/cording our old school bracelets (shout out to anyone that still owns one!) During that time, I learned many different positions and skills. Before I knew it I was doing the resin pours and being challenged consistently with helping to make our products better. The whole experience has been rewarding, and the team I’m a part of is the icing on the cake!
What is your dream project?
Honestly, it’s creating my own version of the secret garden. I’ve had this dream for so long.
What hobbies do you have outside of Carved?
My main hobbies include metalsmithing, electroforming, gardening and dabbling in all things that spark my interest. And if you count cats as a hobby.. cats.
What does your Carved everyday carry look like? Do you have a favorite color combo?
My all time favorite color combo would be a mix of greens, but I do have daily favorites as well. I currently carry a black and white Live Edge, and typically have a bracelet on my wrist.
In conclusion, Kayla is awesome!
One of our core values at Carved is to "always be learning". Each new pour of resin gives Kayla that chance to learn. Not only is she a super-fast learner she is the kind of artist that gets stuff done. And to top that off she is super kind.
We are blessed to have Kayla on the team and are excited to see what she makes next.
